Laurie Fisher trains for Walk Safely to School Day

It’s now less than three weeks until Walk Safely to School Day and Brumbies coach Laurie Fisher has shown his support for the initiative in a training session with local students.

The students from Duffy Primary School were delighted to train with Laurie before their big day on Friday 2 May.

Laurie, who is a local ambassador for Walk Safely to School Day, says that walking to school is a great way to get kids working towards having a healthy lifestyle.

“Kids today really need to be encouraged to get out there and be fit and active. Walking to school really puts kids on the right track to having a healthier lifestyle,” says Laurie.

"Walking to school really has a lot of advantages. It’s a fantastic way to get your heart pumping, spend time with your kids and it reduces traffic congestion around our schools,” says Laurie

Parents and carers are encouraged to take time out and walk with their children to school on Friday 2 May as part of the national initiative.

Kenny Koala says Walk Safely to School

Kenny Koala has taught students across the ACT important road safety rules in preparation for Walk Safely to School Day.

Constable Kenny Koala and ACT Policing taught children at Farrer Primary School road safety rules in a bid to prepare them for Walk Safely to School Day.

“Students who aren’t aware of road safety rules are at risk of crossing roads in unsafe places. It’s important that children understand that there is always a safe way to get across the road, whether it be a pedestrian crossing or going through an underpass,” says Constable Kenny Koala.

“It’s also important that all road users respect school zones and watch out for children crossing roads around schools,” says Constable Kenny.

School zones are in place at all schools in the ACT.
